The Place Hotel – Function Rooms & Corridor Refurbishment

The owners of The Place Hotel had ambitious plans to transform the basement into a large function suite. A key feature of the design was an industrial acoustic sliding door that could divide the room into two when required. The challenge? Ensuring this modern mechanism worked seamlessly while still respecting the hotel’s period character.

To achieve this, the client asked us to integrate the original heritage wall panelling directly onto the sliding door, so that when closed, the partition looked like part of the original room design. This was a daunting and highly detailed task – blending old with new in a way that was both structurally sound and visually invisible. Step forward DTJ.

The result surpassed even our own expectations. The door operates effortlessly, yet when shut, the original panelling disguises it completely. It’s a rare example of modern engineering and traditional craftsmanship working hand in hand.

Beyond the function suite, we also refurbished corridors and other spaces throughout the hotel, bringing new life to a dated building while carefully preserving its natural heritage.
